Camping options for your New Zealand Adventure

Our Rental Motor Home hire fleet is your Luxury 5 Star "Hotel on Wheels", no matter where you choose to overnight.
Campsites are abundant throughout the whole of New Zealand; costs vary according to motor home occupancy and campground facilities offered. Powered sites are widely available. These sites also provide in most cases dump stations for emptying waste water and your toilet cassette.  Often laundry blocks, and entertainment area's are provided also.  These are great places to meet up with fellow travellers, and swap tips on local attractions around the BBQ.

Iconic Motorhomes entire fleet of campervans is equipped with GPS navigation, a comprehensive map and list of campsites with contact numbers so that you will be able to phone ahead and book whilst on the road during peak season.

Booking is required in advance for Christmas and New Year, but generally not at other times of the year.

The Department of Conservation has a large number of campsites which are located in the National Parks and offer basic facilities, but are in some of the most scenic locations.

Freedom Camping is still an option in some area's of New Zealand, and our campervans are well equipped to enjoy this choice, with gas cooking and heating systems as well a the fridge freezer, and leisure batteries which supply lighting and power for your TV. All our motorhomes are fully self-contained. Park up and enjoy the freedom and solitude.  New Zealand is a very safe place..

No freedom camping is not allowed in any of the National parks, but Department of Conservation campsites are readily available here, they offer very low key facilities in some excellent "spots" which still offer that "wildness" experience.  They generally run a payment via an honesty box.  All monies recieved go towards keeping New Zealand such a beautiful place to visit. Rangers do visit the camp sites daily to ensure that payment has been made.

Certain lakeside towns who also have to deal with vast numbers of tourists in the high season insist all motorhomes to use local commercial campsites, or DOC facilities. Most are still well located to enjoy the wonders of that town, and are within walking distance of the amenities on offer. No freedom camping is allowed in any town or city.

If you see a no camping sign, even if it seems to be in the most unlikely spot, do not overnight here under any circumstances, use the local camping grounds, or drive away from the area and find an alternative. This area is being protected and you may inadvertently upset the local wildlife.
